Bespoke Tour Based on Diana Gabaldon's Outlander Books

This tour itinerary is offered for self drive guests and groups of all size. For self drive we will provide excellent printed tour notes and itinerary, accommodation, places to visit, drink and dine. For groups we provide a tour manager for the full tour.

Day One Arrive into Edinburgh airport, we meet you (or collect a self drive rental car) and head directly to the Highlands, stopping en route at Dunkeld, Blair Atholl/Pitlochry, arriving at your accommodation; Inverness, overnight here.

Day Two a visit to Culloden Battlefield, site of the last battle ever fought on British soil, when in 1746 Bonnie Prince Charlie was defeated by the Government forces led by the Duke of Cumberland. We’ll spend time on the moor, visit the Fraser Stone, among others. It is then a short drive to Clava Cairns, where over 4000 years ago our ancestors erected stones and burial chambers (note; large coaches cannot visit here due to the small roads). We then drive to the Black Isle and visit Fortrose and the ruins of its' old cathedral and the burial grounds of the MacKenzies of Seaforth. Hear the tale of Brahan Seer, a prophet executed at nearby Chanonry Point for telling the truth. After lunch, we head to Castle Leod, seat of the current MacKenzie Chief. There will be a short stop to see the infamous Eagle stone (Clach an Tiompain) again from the local lore of the Brahan Seer. We will finish the day by heading through the Aird of Lovat in the heart of Fraser country to Beauly and back to Inverness. Overnight – Inverness

Day Three a boat trip down Loch Ness to Urquhart Castle. Then head west through Kintail and the stunning views and landscapes of the Mam Ratagan Pass. From the pass, the road winds down into the hidden Glenelg. We’ll visit the ruins of the old Redcoat Barracks at Bernera close to Glenelg village itself, drive up Gleann Beag to see the wonderful Dun Telve Broch. This Iron Age fortress is the best preserved Broch on the mainland. We take the ferry to the Isle of Skye - make our way to the Clan Donald Centre at Armadale. Here you will learn about the power of the MacDonald Clan. Then we drive through the stunning Cuillin Mountains (with a wee stop for a dram) to Portree, the picturesque harbour capital of Skye. Overnight on Skye

Day Four a full day to explore the Isle of Skye. Trotternish Penisular to see the bizarre landscapes of the Storr and Cuithraing Hills and Kilt Rock waterfall. We visit Duntulm Castle, once keenly fought over by both MacDonald and MacLeods alike. We stop at the Museum of Island Life. We also visit the grave of Flora MacDonald. We visit the Fairy Glen: a place that has to be seen to be believed. Overnight on Skye

Day Five We depart Skye by way of the Bridge and make our way to Eilean Donan Castle, one of the most famous in Scotland (used in the filming of Highlander). The castle has some outstanding Jacobite armoury and memorabilia. We then drive to Fort William and visit Inverlochy Castle. From Fort William, we make our way to Glencoe. Amid these spectacular peaks and ridges is the infamous story of the massacre of 1692, when the MacDonalds were brutally murdered by their guests, the Redcoat soldiers of the Duke of Argyll. Overnight Glencoe area.

Day Six After breakfast we go the Victorian town of Pitlochry where you can enjoy a dram and tour at one of the smallest distilleries in Scotland. Also free time for lunch, shopping or maybe see Scottish heather being made into jewellery. Then direct to Edinburgh where you stay overnight. For those on a group tour your guide/driver leaves.

Day Seven Free time to explore Scotland's capital city. Maybe stay longer in Edinburgh (or any other location), whatever your needs, we work with you to design the very best Outlander Tour of Scotland.

We arrange tours 12 months a year in Scotland and Ireland, sometimes we even sneak doon to England! ALL THESE TOURS - both self drive & guided, can be designed to your own requirements. After looking at our tour ideas, tours for both self drive AND driver guided.
