Murder, Whisky and Vikings! A Scottish Tour to Die For
This route takes you to the whisky trail in north
east Scotland, Inverness, Easter Ross, Sutherland,
Orkney, the Great Glen - Loch Ness and Glencoe.
We reserve B&B or Hotel accommodation,
simply let mclean scotland know and we will do the rest!
This tour can be taken as a self drive tour - or
fly drive as some call it - a small or large
group tour with one of our driver guided or a
coach with driver and guide.
Day
1
A route with a difference ...
your journey starts at Inverness, where
you have time to settle in, maybe a stroll
along the banks of the River Ness and away
to the pub for a wee dram before you retire
for the night.
Day 2
takes you to Culloden Battlefield, scene
of the last battle fought on British soil,
between Bonnie Prince Charlie and the English
in 1746. A memorable experience. After Culloden
why not head out into the whisky lands to
sample our National Drink - the 'water of
life' before heading back to Inverness.
Day
3 you leave Inverness and
head north through the Black Isle and after
a (suggested) brief stop at Dornoch continue
north along the coast road to Caithness
and the ferry to Orkney. Arrive at your
accommodation where you have time to relax
and freshen up before evening dinner.
Days
4, 5 and 6 BACK IN TIME - STONE TO IRON
AGE:
Cuween Cairn, known as the Tomb of the Dogs. Maeshowe,
tomb or temple? the standing stones of Stenness,
Ring of Brodgar, circles of mystery, Skara Brae,
a village older than the pyramids and the Broch
of Gurness. The Italian Chapel, designed by Italian
prisoners of war, Scapa Flow a great natural harbour
used in both world wars, Tomb of the Eagles a
neolithic site approx 3000 years BC, Mine Howe,
visit the mystery of the 29 steps, no one really
knows what this ancient mound really is, perhaps
you may have an idea? Whilst you are here why
not make a visit to the most northerly whisky
distillery in Scotland - Highland Park, where
you can once again sample our famous drink!
Day
7 catch the ferry back to
the mainland this morning and head south
retracing your steps to Dornoch, where you
rest up for the night.

8 heading west through the
Great Glen along the shores of Loch Ness,
stopping briefly at Urquhart Castle - here
is the deepest part of the Loch, continuing
west heading for the infamous Glencoe -
scene of the massacre of MacDonalds by the
Campbells on the 13th February 1692. Take
some time in this Glen, great opportunities
for photos here and take in the unique atmosphere,
before ending the day at your accommodation.
Day
9 after a good Scottish
breakfast head south via the West Coast
through Kilmartin Glen - Scotland's richest
prehistoric landscape, over 5,000 years
of human history. Alternatively take the
scenic Bonnie Bonnie Banks of Loch Lomond
route. Arrive at your last night of the
tour, in Glasgow, Scotland's largest and
most vibrant city. Time to relax, explore
the city and maybe a drink?
Day
10 it's away to the airport
and your flight home, hoping you have had
a truly memorable experience!
