THE ITINERARY FOR
CHRISTINA VAN AKEN, BROTHER DAVID AND JENNIFER
This is a tour
for the fast living and die hard whisky drinkers,
not much sleep until you get home! But hey,
it's a fun tour. Hopefully we can persuade Christina
to give us her thoughts on the tour ... Orkney
Inverness Loch Ness and Edinburgh on a whiplash tour
with mcleanscotland tour company
19 June – arrive into Scotland
8.30 Glasgow airport – driver/guide to meet you and
transfer to Inverness. En route we visit
Edradour distillery, the smallest in
Scotland (situated above the lovely Victorian town
of Pitlochry) then drive through stunning scenery
mid afternoon. Visit
Culloden Battlefield
(walk this eerie moor and hear from your guide, Paul
the story of Bonnie Prince Charlie and the Butcher
Cumberland). and Clava Cairns
(ancient burial grounds with standing stones, older
than the pyramids). Not many people know they are
there!! Return to Inverness overnight.
20 June – a VERY early start this morning (OH
GOD! 5.30AM) to catch the ferry to Orkney
– arriving into Orkney around 10.30am Spend the
remainder of the day visiting all historical sites,
such as Mine Howe, Skara Brae, Ring of Brodgar
etc. Also Highland Park Distillery (they did
a few good whisky's this day believe me!).
Orkney overnight.
21 June – leave Orkney by 11am ferry,
arriving back on the mainland at 13.15. Drive down
to Drumnadrochit on Loch Ness. A quick tour
of Loch Ness and Urquhart Castle.
This will be a long driving day and we will pack in
as much as we can for you. Overnight Inverness.
22 June – We will then travel to
Speyside and visit Macallan
distillery. Drive south towards Edinburgh with a
stop at Perth. Stop for refreshments in Perth
continue to Edinburgh. Plenty of
recommendations on what to see and do, where to eat,
great wee pubs to explore all in the tour notes.
Another long day and we will once again get in as
much as possible. Overnight Edinburgh.
23rd June – on your own in Edinburgh.
Overnight Edinburgh.
To recap: we did
Edradour, Highland Park, Glenmorangie and Macallan
whisky distilleries, in addition to Orkney sights,
many other sightseeing trips and ending up in
Edinburgh. Whilst on Orkney we witnessed the
England versus Sweden football game in the world
cup, a highlight as Sweden drew in the last minute!
'mon the Larson! If my new friends from
USA didn't know what was going on, the rest of the
pub did! A good night was rounded off with wee
samples in the upstairs bar of, bacon fries, scampie
fries and tomato sauce and sausage crisps!
Amazing, the guys bought some for back home. I
hope they get all those bottles of whisky home!
Then away to
Ireland for some more fun! Pix arriving soon
