The Palace Bar is one of Dublin’s best loved original Victorian pubs. Thursday 24 May, 7pm. EURO 25pp

To book PALACE@mcleanscotland.com

Upstairs is the Palace Lounge with another bar, festooned with murals depicting the pub’s long association with sports and literature. This is our venue for this evening. Willie Aherne is the third generation of family running this pub, he's a real whiskey man and justifiably proud of the traditions and history. So much so, that when Paul strayed into his bar with Dave and Linda, he saw the potential right away for this evening of Irish whiskey tasting!

So, what do we have?

AN EVENING OF IRISH DRAMS IN A TRADITIONAL IRISH PUB, led by Irish experts for all who wish to taste Ireland.

What do we get?

A SPECIAL SELECTION of 5 Irish whiskey's, chosen from the Cooley's range , delight in the experience you will never forget. Not a masterclass, not a normal tasting session, rather an "experience" with Willie, humour, whiskey and of course; the craik!

MCLEANSCOTLAND are proud to be ‘Whisky Live Dublin official tour agent’

During the 1940’s and 50’s the pub became the social home to Dublin’s literati – writers, poets, artists, novelists, sculptors, newspaper men – all under the patronage of R.M. Smyllie, the then editor of the Irish Times.  The Irish author and newspaper man Flann O’Brien was a regular and drank whiskey in the intensive care unit (lounge room at the back). He was once asked why he wore a velvet glove when he drank whiskey. ‘I swore to my mother on her deathbed that I’d never touch a glass of whiskey. That’s why I wear a velvet glove’.  The Palace Bar bottled its own whiskey right up until the mid 1960’s.  They have the very best range of Irish whiskeys, with some real collectors’ gems on dusty shelves like the bottle of DWD whiskey from the old Jones’ Road Distillery (closed around 1926).
