The Home of Golf - Scotland, where
better to arrange a golf tour?

The Classic
Scottish Tour 2009
This
tour has been designed by Chrissy & Brian Wickes and
MCLEANSCOTLAND.
With a
maximum of 30 persons aboard it will be a very
personal, friendly and comprehensive tour
giving the best in Scottish golf, scenery and hospitality.
A once - in - lifetime package! Mix in our fantastic
courses, our whisky, fabulous food, incredible
sightseeing (on and off the courses) and our people
and what do you get? Golfing Heaven! Welcome
to the tour ...

DAY ONE;
18 SEPTEMBER 2008 as
you arrive into Glasgow, we will meet you and
transfer all luggage to our luxury coach and set out
into our countryside, heading south, almost as far
south as we can go in Scotland, to Cally Palace
Hotel, Gatehouse of Fleet, Dumfries & Galloway.
Entering through the oak doors, the grandeur of the
interior is immediately apparent. Two huge marble
pillars frame the entrance hall, which leads into
the Bow Lounge with its magnificent gilt cupola
ceiling. The warmth of the Scottish welcome will
impress as much as the opulence of the surroundings.
The Cally Palace dates back to 1763, when James
Murray, owner of the Cally Estate, chose the superb
setting overlooking the Galloway hills to build his
country mansion. Sympathetic renovations and
refurbishment under the personal supervision of the
McMillan family (friends of mcleanscotland) have
restored the Cally to its former glory, allowing
guests to enjoy the ambience of a bygone age. The
indoor leisure complex includes a 15 metre heated
swimming pool, jacuzzi, sauna and air conditioned
gym, an in-house Therapist offering a range of
Treatments including Indian Head Massage, Reiki,
Back Neck and Shoulder Massage and Reflexology -
treatments guaranteed to leave you feeling relaxed.

Och aye, almost forgot; the Cally Palace has its
own 18 hole parkland golf course. Designed by the
well known golf architect Tom Macaulay, the Cally
Course opened in 1994. The course is for the
exclusive use of guests and the welcoming atmosphere
will guarantee a relaxing but challenging round. No
members, no competitions, just exclusively yours to
enjoy! Sculpted into the parkland surrounding the
hotel, its maturity belies its age, achieved by
using the natural contours of the land and the
magnificent trees, the hidden burns and the Cally
Lake. Golf buggies are available for hire, and
there's also a practice area and putting green. As
you play the course, there are wonderful views of
Cardoness Castle, Rutherford's Monument and the
Fleet Estuary. WE CHECK IN, RELAX AND ENJOY OUR
SURROUNDINGS, TIME FOR A WANDER MAYBE OR A DRINK?
Your first night in Scotland, how much better can it
get? Dinner included.

DAY TWO; well
actually, it gets better! A round of golf for the
golfers amongst the group, whilst the non golfers
will enjoy a sightseeing trip lasting approx 4
hours, as we travel to Culzean Castle on the coast.
The first written reference to a Tower House at
Culzean dates to the 1400's, although it is possible
there was a building here even earlier. Then, it was
known as 'Coif Castle', or the 'House of Cove',
taking it's name from the caves below. This name was
altered to 'Cullean Castle' in the 1600's and the
present spelling adopted sometime in the 18th
century. Entrance included as we tour this fantastic
"pile". we return to the hotel for relaxation, maybe
the spa or a walk in the extensive grounds? we meet
up with the golfers late afternoon for a drink or
chat about the day's events. Dinner included this
evening.

DAY THREE;
sadly we must depart the Cally and head north, we
cross some rich Scottish countryside as we approach
Edinburgh. with a break in our journey somewhere en
route, we arrive in our Capital City after lunch and
check into our hotel - Belford Menzies. Situated on
the water of Leith it is a lovely hotel with bars,
restaurant and super rooms just awaiting your
arrival. Check in and the remainder of the day is
yours free to do as you wish. We will of
course give many suggestions! dinner this evening is
your own choice, with so many options, you will be
spoilt for choice!

DAY FOUR; a
day of sightseeing and golf today, we head out to
North Berwick where our golfers will play a round on
the The West Links, a unique golfing experience, and
poses a true challenge for even the most proficient
golfer. It is a true links course – steeped in
history – and complete with traditional revetted
bunkers, blind holes, drives over walls and burns
together with magnificent views towards the sea. Non
golfers will be taken to the village of St Abbs. The
name of St Abbs is much older then the village that
bears it. In the late 630s a Northumbrian Princess
called Ebba was shipwrecked on the headland now
known as St Abbs. She was taken in as a nun in the
joint nunnery and priory in Coldingham and later
became Abbess, and still later a Saint, St Ebba. St
Abbs is simply the name by which St Ebba is
remembered. Plenty of time here for a good wander in
the harbour and village. we return for the golfers
and back to Edinburgh, remainder of the day/night is
free to do as you wish. Dinner this evening is your
own choice again.

DAY FIVE;
half a day here in Edinburgh for shopping,
eating/drinking or sightseeing, your final chance!
we head the short distance to the Kingdom of Fife,
where we head to the home of golf itself; St
Andrews. Greyfriars Hotel is a five minute walk from
the Royal and Ancient Clubhouse where the laws of
the game were first set down. Stand on the first tee
and you are a part of golfing history where every
legend of the game has battled for victory. And yes,
we do have beaches here! take the remainder of the
day to explore and walk around this old town, maybe
meet up again later for a group drink or a bite to
eat? Dinner at your own leisure.

DAY SIX; well
we have to don't we! GOLF it is today, what course?
well we really do not know, the Old Course is a
ballot and of course, all names will be in the draw.
If unsuccessful, we will play another course, maybe
in St Andrews or even Kingsbarns just down the
coast. Whatever the course, it will be a real
experience. Non golfers will take a trip to the wee
fishing villages of Crail and Anstruther. Dinner at
your own leisure this evening.

DAY SEVEN;
another day of superb golf and sightseeing, as we
cross the Tay Road Bridge into Dundee. Our aim is
Carnoustie, where if we can arrange golf times, this
is where you play today. If not by some chance
we will play Letham Grange, another superb course.
Non golfers will be taken to Glamis Castle in Angus
for a superb visit. After the golf and the castle
visit, we all meet up and spend some time in
Broughty Ferry, a wee town on the banks of the Firth
of Tay. One or two excellent traditional pubs we
know very well here, this is where Liz of
mcleanscotland lives and, is one of our office
bases. we will meet up with Liz and some locals for
a few shared drinks and stories, maybe dinner is
taken here also. We return later on to our hotel in
St Andrews.

DAY EIGHT;
another mixed day of golf and sightseeing, this time
into the Highlands as we head north and west we will
stop at Perth for a courtesy break. From here
through stunning Scottish scenery all the way to
Glen Dochart where we rest at Tyndrum. From
here it is a short drive into Rannoch Moor and then
our destination; Glencoe - the most tragic of the
glens. By mid afternoon we will have dropped off our
golfers at the
Dragon's Tooth course at Ballachulish. An
excellent 9 hole that will test you all - ask Brian!
Our non golfers will be treated to some outstanding
scenery! All return to the hotel in Glencoe that
evening. Dinner will be at your own choice/expense
at one of the local pubs - Paul knows exactly where
to take you, as do Chrissy and Brian.

DAY NINE; the
last day of golf! Where to? Lochgilphead. Where? aye
- a less known course but testing just the same. Our
golfers will be dropped here whilst those remaining
will be taken to Inveraray Castle, a magnificent
pile - home to the Duke of Argyll. Time also for
some wandering in this loch side town, before
rejoining the golfers for a final bit of
sightseeing, this time ancient Celtic and Scottish
history. See and touch over 5000 years of history!
Returning to our hotel and a chance to choose where
to dine once again. Overnight Glencoe.

DAY TEN; we
bid a farewell to St Andrews as we head towards
Glasgow, we will be stopping on the banks of Loch Lomond and on to Glasgow. we check in to the
Marriott Hotel there and have the remainder of the day
free time to explore. Final night at the Marriott
with Dinner included. END OF TOUR.
