BANKS
IN SCOTLAND
We recommend that you have enough
Scottish currency to last you two days, as airport
exchanges can be costly! Banks, travel agencies
and the Post Office are all good to exchange currency.
Our currency exchange page links from the MENU on the
left of the page.
Yahoo also keeps
up-to-date figures on currency rates. EUROS are not
readily accepted in Scotland except in places like
airports etc.
ALL BANK NOTES ARE
DIFFERENT from each other, each bank has it's own
designs and colours. ALL are legal tender.
The currency in
SCOTLAND is the pound sterling where 1 pound (£) is
made up of 100 pence. This is the currency of England,
Wales, Northern Ireland
and Scotland, although you will find that Scotland has
different notes for £10, £20, £50 and £5 as well. We
also have one pound notes. The exchange rate is
VARIABLE. Rep of Ireland has the
EURO.
TRAVELLERS CHEQUES we do not recommend these, as
most places in Scotland have ATM's and will take credit
cards.
CREDIT CARDS Please be aware - AMEX is not
readily accepted here in Scotland.
Banking
hours: In general, banks open Monday to Friday, 0930
to 1600, with some closing later on a Thursday. Banks in
cities, particularly in or near the main shopping
centres may be open at weekends. Cash machines in
hundreds of branches allow you to withdraw cash outside
banking hours, using the appropriate cards. Some banks
do have extended opening hours, these will be posted on
their doorways. Banks in the districts:
these can tend to have their own hours and be careful when travelling to the
isles, some do not have a bank and some just one, so don't get caught out!
In
Scotland we have three banks
that issue currency notes so you may see different
images on three different notes of the same value, to
see what our currency looks like take a look at the
links below.
